Crotchet as a Protective Hairstyle

As a lady or female in general, aside from wearing wigs and hair extensions, I believe it’s safe to say we love wearing other hairstyles that also keep your natural hair intact. We know how much we love and protect our edges and we don’t want them shedding off…

Braids are really beautiful but it’s not much of a protective hairstyle. You could make Ghana weaves and then when it’s time to take it off, you complain of how much of your hair goes off with the attachment, I believe I’m very right on this (cos it happens to me as well).

I used to think, it was just Ghana-weaves that pull out the natural hair but even the box braids too — most times, if you don’t fall into the hands of the right hairdresser, they could mess up your hair from the way they braid it.

Well, let’s talk about crotchet hairs — This kind of hairstyle is unique. Amazingly simple to install and you can leave it for as long as you want to, compared to your braids. Most times when I braid my hair, I don’t let it stay for long cos I’m scared of it twisting and pulling off my front hair…this rarely happens with crotchets and faux locs.

Also, unlike box braids and Ghana-weaves that may take about 6 to 8 hours to install, as I’ve said earlier, you should expect to spend not less than 3 to 2 hours in the salon chair when getting your crotchet hairstyle installed. Amazing, cos mehn…time is precious to me.

Crotchet hairs would not take out your natural hair, no matter how long to leave it on — say 6 to 8 weeks, yea! You can always go for a retouch, in case the front needs a little brush-up. The funny but amazing thing about these crotchet styles is that they look better when they are getting old. I don’t know if it’s just me or every other person sees this…

Let’s talk about your budget. Crotchet hairstyles do not also cost a lot. They are so beautiful yet affordable. What you should actually consider is actually how much your hairstylist will collect, her location or if he or she would be doing home service for you. Do not sweat it, everything about crotchet or faux locs hairstyle is quite affordable, no matter your class.

Most importantly and lastly, why would you consider a protective hairstyle? They don’t damage Hair in any way — tho it’s all about maintenance and making sure your natural hair is healthy before it’s braided down. One of the advantages of this hairstyle is that you could wash your hair while your crotchet is still on with a little deep conditioning.
